Evolution of plant diversity in the region (LWE2103033)

The historical approach developed in the line ”Evolution of plant diversity in the region” incorporates two complementary approaches. On one hand, it investigates the changes in geological time in distribution of plant diversity in the Cordilleras Béticas through the analysis of palynological samples in deposits present in the region such as Orce in Granada and several lagoons in Almería and Málaga. It also carries out a reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary and speciation processes in a group of plants of the genus Arenaria that show an intense diversification in the region, using genomic markers that allow better resolution in complex groups.

A significant portion of the results obtained, regarding the fossil record, are available in the book «Paleoflora y Paleovegetación Ibérica.» https://www.paleofloraiberica.org/
