Biological invasions by alien species are a problem for the conservation of biodiversity and the maintenance of environmental services. This sub-project will provide a database on the environmental impacts of invasive plants in Europe that can be useful for decision-making. This database details the identity of affected native species, changes in plant, animal and micro-organism communities, and changes in ecosystem processes in nutrient cycles and productivity. It also includes information on the location of the impact and the type of ecosystem invaded. The quantification of impacts uses the standardized EICAT and SEICAT protocols. This database will be used in the information system on Impacts of Biological Invasions of the Intergovernmental Scientific-Regulatory Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystems services (IPBES).
