Among the several crayfish species that have been introduced all over the world, the red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) is the most widespread (present in all continents except, yet, Australasia and Antarctica), also generating enormous environmental and socioeconomic impacts. It was introduced in the Lower Guadalquivir River area in 1974, quickly propagating and attaining thereof in the Doñana natural area, as it started expanding over Andalusia, the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, Europe and Northern Africa. SUMHAL will study the invasion process of the red swamp crayfish and its impacts at spatial scales ranging from local (Doñana) to global. Along the project an effort will be devoted to produce publicly available databases that should be useful for research team for all over the world.
