The Feral Cats project was created with the objective of studying the impact on biodiversity of free cats (domestic, colonies and feral cats) in semi-urban, rural, and natural environments. The main objectives to be developed are:
- Determine the detailed movements of cats in their environment and their degree of penetrability in the environment from potential sources such as urban centers and/or cottages, using GPS-GSM collars, dataloggers and phototrampeo databases.
- To determine and attempt to quantify the impact of predation of domestic cats on different species and possible competition with other predators in different environments by analyzing their excrement and collecting catch events by the public.
The project presents an important component of citizen science, where interested people can participate in each of the objectives, helping us both in the collection of data of catches, phototrampes and sightings of cats in natural environments through the use of online questionnaires and naturalist platforms such as Observation.org, as well as with the movements of their cats wearing one of our GPS collars.
