He holds a degree and a PhD in Biology from the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology (Botany) of the University of Seville. His research is focused on the evolution of plants in general, with greater emphasis on their reproductive biology, and on the interactions between plants and animals. He is also interested in biogeography, especially with regard to the boundaries of biogeographic regions and species, given their increased sensitivity to the potential effects of climate change.
