He holds a degree (1988) and a PhD (1992) in Biological Sciences from the University of Granada Post-doctoral stay (1994–1998) at the Department of Genetics of the University of Ghent (Belgium) Senior Scientist (2007) of the Department of Soil and Plant Microbiology, Zaidín Experimental Station.
During his research career, he has been interested in obtaining basic and applied knowledge of the beneficial interactions between microorganisms and plants of interest in agricultural and forestry systems, i.e. the Microbiology of Agroforestry Ecosystems. Therefore, the study of the microbiomes of woody plants, both external to the root and endophytic, constitutes the core of the research it carries out. To achieve this objective, the lines of research developed are based on the study of the ecology of root microorganisms through “-omic” analysis of microbial communities and their role in the maintenance of natural ecosystems (pines, oaks, oaks, etc.) or agricultural (olive trees), as well as the role they play in the physiological state of their host plant.
