He has a degree and a PhD in biology from the University of Murcia, specializing in botany. Professor of Plant Evolution (2003). He is Principal Investigator of the ECCE HOMO group (Evolution, Cenozoic, Quaternary, Ecology). His interest is paleoecology, paleoclimatology, paleobotany, historical biogeography and the study of the patterns and processes of human evolution and cultural change related to environmental variability. He was the manager of the National Plan (Biodiversity).
