He is a doctor and evolutionary botanist, who works as a Visiting Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid. Motivated by the study of biodiversity and evolution, he has made an academic career linked to botanical gardens and universities, carrying out stays and scientific expeditions throughout 5 continents. He is especially interested in the study of biodiversity patterns and processes from ecological and evolutionary perspectives. To this end, he has worked especially to connect macroevolutionary patterns and processes with microevolutionary ones, through biogeography, phylogeography and population genetics.
